Modalities

All treatments used at the Nan Lu Acupuncture, PLLC, draw on safe and effective 5000-year-old practices of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). Practitioners work with you to identify the optimal course of treatment, and select appropriate modalities based on a comprehensive intake exam. Read more about your first visit .

Most treatments are individual and by appointment only. We also offer some group acupuncture programs, and Drop-In Acupuncture on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

The modalities we use include:

Acupuncture
Acupuncture
By stimulating meridians, or the body's invisible energy pathways, acupuncture can help the body function at a consciousness level to regain its healing ability. Acupuncture uses very thin needles to stimulate a specific point or points to help Qi or vital energy flow throughout the body. While acupuncture treatments can help you unblock energy stagnation from a functional perspective, a well-trained practitioner can actually help you gain energy.

Herbal therapy
Some herbs are taken as teas, most are taken in capsule form.
Herbal Therapy
Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has thousands of years of study and practical experience in herbal therapy. In the West, herbs are often selected in accordance with specific symptoms, e.g., dong qai is helpful for menstrual problems, ginseng is good for low energy. You can end up taking many herbs at the same time based on your multiple symptoms. From the TCM, this is not the deepest understanding or most effective use of herbs.

Instead of single herbs, TCM has a very sophisticated, extensive herbal formula apothecary. Its purpose is to help stimulate your own self-healing program as well as increase the healing ability of specific organs so they perform their functions better. When internal organs heal and work better together, you gain maximum nutrition from a minimum amount of food. Each herb and herbal combination is a microcosm of Universal harmony. Taking special herbs can stimulate your own microsocosmic program that links you to the Universal and help you rebalance various organ functions.

Spiritual Counseling. From the spiritual perspective there is no disease or illness, just unresolved purpose. This simple statement is often easier said than practiced! Nan Lu Acupuncture, PLLC, recognizes that we need guidance and encouragement on our spiritual and healing paths. Practitioners work with you to understand the reason for your illness, allowing the body to heal on the highest level so that health problems can fade away and recurrence can be prevented.

Emotional Psychology. For thousands of years, traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has supported healing based on the body-mind-spirit connection. It recognizes that each organ and its partner organ have a special spirit or personality that is expressed through specific emotions. TCM perfected the art of understanding these personalities and recognized that balanced emotions are essential for well-being. Different emotions experienced in excess or chronically can cause their associated organs to fall out of balance and disrupt their healthy functions. Equally so, impaired organ function can bring on its corresponding emotion.

Qigong Meridian Therapy
Qigong Meridian Therapy (QMT) or Acupupressure.
Classical acupressure is a sophisticated medical treatment that is also called Tuina. It is used to relieve energy stagnation and is not the same as body massage. Acupressure uses special hand techniques, and sometimes tools, to stimulate meridians, or energy pathways, as well as acupoints or energy points on meridians. Acupressure can be as effective as acupuncture. For some conditions, it is more useful and easier on the patient. Sport injuries respond better to acupressure. Acupressure and acupuncture can be used together to accelerate healing benefits.

Rasberries
Eating for Healing. For thousands of years, food for healing has been prescribed by traditional Chinese medicine practitioners. Every food carries a healing essence. You will learn how foods heal at the energy level and be given a customized list of foods with healing essences to help correct particular imbalances and provide additional energy to boost your organs' healing power.

Solo meditation
Qigong or Energy Self-Practice
Qigong is a self-healing practice that allows an individual to gain control of and direct his or her own life force. The Wu Ming Qigong taught at the Tao of Healing school traces its lineage back to the ancient masters Lao Tzu and Chuang Tzu.

Qigong can help treat many health conditions including obesity (see the Dragon's Way program from our sister organization, TCM World Foundation). Today, in hospitals and clinics across China, Qigong is routinely prescribed for many conditions, including arthritis, bowel problems, diabetes, ulcers, and more. It is also successfully used as a prescription to reduce or, in some cases, eliminate, the debilitating side effects of radiation and chemotherapy. One of its special benefits is that it develops your intuition and allows you to see the world from a different perspective. It helps open up your sixth sense.

Some Nan Lu Acupuncture, PLLC, patients will be instructed in specific ancient Qigong movements and postures to help speed up the healing process.
